About Spiritualism

Spiritualism is a recognised religion founded on seven core principles that guide how we live, grow, and connect — both with one another and with the spirit world.

These teachings were first inspired in 1871 through the mediumship of Emma Hardinge Britten, one of Spiritualism’s great pioneers, and guided by the spirit of Robert Owen, founder of the Co-operative Movement.

When the Spiritualists’ National Union was formed in 1901, these principles were set out in their current form.

The Seven Principles:
1. The Fatherhood of God
2. The Brotherhood of Man
3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels
4. The Continuous Existence of the Human Soul
5. Personal Responsibility
6. Compensation and Retribution Hereafter for all the Good and Evil Deeds done on Earth
7. Eternal Progress Open to Every Human Soul

What We Believe

Spiritualism teaches that life is continuous — the human soul lives on beyond physical death, and communication with those in the spirit world is possible.

These Seven Principles are the foundation of our faith, encouraging each person to develop their own understanding and live in harmony with others and the spirit world.
